You may consider physical therapy (PT) for your child if you notice delays or difficulties in their gross motor skills, such as sitting, crawling, walking, running, jumping, or balance. If your child has trouble keeping up with peers in physical activities, exhibits unusual postures or movements, or has issues with muscle tone or strength, PT may be beneficial. If you have any concerns about your child's gross motor skills and abilities call Benchmark Pediatrics to schedule a free 15 minute consultation.

It's not uncommon for some babies to dislike tummy time, but it's important to encourage it as it is beneficial for their physical development. Tummy time helps strengthen the muscles in the neck, shoulders, and core, which are important for later developmental milestones like crawling and sitting up. If your child doesn't like tummy time, give us a call for some tips and tricks on how to make tummy time more enjoyable.

Yes! You don't have to wait until your child is more delayed before you get intervention. Benchmark Pediatrics is considered an out-of-network provider with all insurance carriers. Without the needless constraints imposed by a healthcare carrier (such as pre-authorizations or capped visits), you can enjoy the flexibility of having services provided to your child as you see fit.

School-based physical therapy (PT) is a specialized service provided to students who have a documented need for PT to benefit from their educational program. PT in the school setting focuses on improving a student's ability to participate in school activities and access their educational environment. This can include improving mobility, strength, balance, and coordination, as well as addressing barriers to participation in activities such as recess, physical education, and navigating the school environment. Just because a child does not qualify for physical therapy (PT) in the school setting does not mean they do not need PT. The criteria for receiving school-based PT are specific to the educational environment and may not capture all the needs a child may have outside of school. If you believe your child could benefit from PT, it may be helpful to seek an evaluation from a pediatric physical therapist outside of school to assess their overall physical development and determine if PT would be beneficial.

If you feel that your child needs more support than what is currently provided through Birth to Three, you can add additional services. Give us a call and let us help!

Whether your child needs physical therapy (PT) services at home in addition to school-based therapy depends on their individual needs and goals. School-based PT focuses on addressing educational needs and promoting participation in the school environment, while home-based PT can help reinforce skills learned at school and address functional abilities in other environments, such as home and community settings. Additionally, home-based PT can provide more individualized attention and target specific challenges your child may face outside of school.
